Otolith ?18O Composition as a Tracer of Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus albacares) Origin in the Indian Ocean

چکیده

Yellowfin tuna of the Indian Ocean is overfished, and a better understanding stock structure needed to enable sustainable management. Here, otolith ?18O values young-of-the-year fish from known nursery areas equatorial (West, Central East) were used establish reference isotopic signature predict origin sub-adult adult individuals. Sub-adult Reunion Island similar West signature, but sub-adults Pakistan unlike any nurseries sampled. Therefore, area samples considered an additional source for predicting tuna, using multinomial logistic regression classification method. The western was most productive three fishing grounds sampled, with minor contribution Pakistan-like fish. Contribution or East population negligible. One analysed by secondary ion mass spectrometry along growth transect results compared isoscape approach infer lifetime movements. This study important first step towards spatial connectivity species.

Quality assessment of filtered smoked yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) steaks.

UNLABELLED Filtered smoke (FS) has been used to preserve taste, texture, and/or color in tuna and other fish species. This treatment is particularly important in color preservation during frozen storage. The objective of this study was to compare changes in the quality profiles of FS-treated and untreated (UT) yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) steaks stored in 3 ways: room temperature (21 to 2...

Deep diving behavior observed in yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares)

Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) are known to preferentially occupy the surface mixed layer above the thermocline and it has been suggested that they are physiologically restricted to water temperatures no more than 8 ◦C colder than surface waters. However, we here report for dive data acquired from a large yellowfin tuna which demonstrate for the first time that this species is indeed capabl...

Accounting for Age Uncertainty in Growth Modeling, the Case Study of Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus albacares) of the Indian Ocean

Age estimates, typically determined by counting periodic growth increments in calcified structures of vertebrates, are the basis of population dynamics models used for managing exploited or threatened species. In fisheries research, the use of otolith growth rings as an indicator of fish age has increased considerably in recent decades. However, otolith readings include various sources of uncer...

Chemical composition of protein concentrate prepared from Yellowfin tuna Thunnus albacares roe by cook-dried process

Roe is the term used to describe fish eggs (oocytes) gathered in skeins and is one of the most valuable food products from fishery sources. Thus, means of processing are required to convert the underutilized yellowfin tuna roes (YTR) into more marketable and acceptable forms as protein concentrate. Roe protein concentrates (RPCs) were prepared by cooking condition (boil-dried concentrate, BDC a...

Influence of oceanographic variability on recruitment of yellowfin tuna Thunnus albacares in the western and central Pacific Ocean

Recruitment estimates for yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) in the western and central Pacific Ocean (WCPO), derived from a stock assessment model, are highly variable seasonally, interannually, and over decadal periods. A generalized linear model (GLM) was developed that predicts the variation in yellowfin tuna recruitment in response to a range of oceanographic variables. The GLM model accou...
